PLEASE COMMENT, OPINIONS NEEDED!

Suddenly a few weeks ago when I was watching a DVD on my computer, the program (WinDVD) froze. For some reason as a result, my DVD drive will no longer recognize any disc as being in the drive. It'll act as if the drive is empty, even when it's not. I already tried toubleshooting the drive and it says that the device is working properly.

Anyone have experience with a similar problem? How was it fixed, etc?

And now the second half of the computer question, if no one can answer the above:

Does anyone have any experience with The Geek Squad? Are they good?

I looked at their website and it says that for a diagnostic/fix package, to take it in to them would be at least $200.

So my other dilema is, for that much money, would it just be worth it to look into buying a new computer? I would just need a new tower and would it be worth it to me to put the money towards a new vs. putting money towards fixing this one?

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated!

$200? That's ridiculous. Do you have the Win DVD program on a CD so you can uninstall and reinstall it? Did you go into Control Panel and select Add Hardware to see if the system re-finds your DVD drive?

Yeah, I tried troubleshooting and it says that the device is working properly. And I just don't know what to do.

Before you do any tech stuff, I would first try to look at all computer tech help sites and ask about it online if you haven't done that already. The Geek Squad price sounds pretty high, I'd look for other options before deciding on it. There should be some sites and people who've used it before and have posted on the internet so check for that as well. As for a new computer, it depends on how long you've had the one you've got and whether you'd like some new stuff besides the computer actually working.

I don't know much about stuff like that, but have you checked if the Region-code is still the same? Or if you have several drives, if the one you're using for the dvd is accepting dvd's (don't really know how to explain this in english, sorry). You'll have to mark the drive with a "v"
