So I was going to upload my fanfic folder to YSI with the intention of downloading it at home on the computer there since it never seems to want to be put on a disk and I figured this would be an easier way and then I'd have the fics I like to read available when I go home and don't have this computer.

I thought wrong.

I found out that my QAF Fanfic folder, of other people's fics that I've saved, is maybe, possibly...a little big. I was quite a bit shocked to realized that it was nearly the same amount of MB that a Veronica Mars episode is. What do you think? A bit excessive?:

I don't know. Is 14,000 files a bit much?

And I've now succeeded in scaring myself.
*searches for life I know I once had*

I'm just curious (and not very computer savvy). How do you save your fanfic files? Sometimes I copy and then paste them into Word, but it seems like a long process with all the QAF fanfic that is out there. Are you doing it an easier way?

Did YSI let you upload a file that big?

When I have a webpage open on Internet Explorer, I go to File-->Save As and save it in my fanfic folder. Then when I want to view the same page offline, I just open the folder and double click on the fic I wanna read and it will open in IE.

Sometimes IE will ask you if you want to 'Work Offline' and all you have to do is click yes. The next time you sign on after that, I will ask you about connecting and you have to click yes again.

YSI does let files that big be uploaded, but I didn't since it would take me forever to download it at home.

I don't know how many files I have as they are organised into story folders, so if a story was downloaded as 20 parts, that's 20 files but it shows up as one folder. I would have to open every folder to get the file count.

However, I can tell you I have 155.6 Mb of QAF-fic on my HD, and that is all downloaded as space-saving .txt files not the bigger .html format. That's 681 stories, of which a colossal 199 are in my 'unfinished' folder.

This is not the end of the fanfic story though. I've collected fanfic in several fandoms, so my total fanfic count is 685.2 Mb. QAF is the biggest folder, with The Sentinel (137.7 Mb) and Stargate SG-1 (137.3 Mb) close behind. Smallest is Numb3rs, which I've only just started to read, at 244K.

Do I like fanfic? What do you think? *g*

I've got the same addiction. Only do I not save them on my pc, but I've got the bad habit of printing everything out 'coz it reads much easier. So needless to say, I've got tons and tons of folders with fic. I think they've already chopped off an entire rainforest just to print out all the fic I've saved. (and thrown away) *bows head in embarrassment*

Followed you over from [livejournal.com profile] getithere (thanks for finding me that link btw). Do you ever do recs? 'Cause I bet with all that saved material, you know some amazing fics that perhaps are older and/or not as well circulated. That'd be pretty cool.

Anyway, no worries, that's what hard drive space is for, right. I mean, what else good is it. :)

Thanks again.
