Mr. Schwarzenegger,
As a life-long California resident, I find your decision to veto AB 849, the Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Protection Act, appalling. It is wholly unjust to deny people basic rights and freedoms based on their sexual orientation. And your reasoning that it's 'what the people want' is outdated. Proposition 22 was passed 5 years ago. A lot can happen in 5 years, especially with people's bigotries and narrow-mindedness. Things change. So do people and their opinions. Using a dated vote as an excuse to exclude a group of people from a freedom that every other California resident has is cowardly. And letting your religion dictate how you chose to run a government is not what this country was founded on.
I can only hope that you do the right thing and change your mind regarding AB 849, the Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Protection Act and sign the bill. It's passage will only improve our state by not regarding any of its members as second class citizens, due simply to their sexual orientation, something they have no control over.
Sincerely,
Tina G.
