From now on whenever I have trouble accessing a website my reaction is apparently going to be: Oh what the hell did the US government do now?!!!! How is THIS site illegal?!!!*

I am still missing Megaupload like a missing limb. I don't think I appreciated it enough while it was here, and I miss it loads now that it's gone. So sad.

WHAT IS THE INTERNET FOR IF NOT PORN AND ILLEGAL DOWNLOADS??!!!!

And you just KNOW they're going to go after the porn next.

*I can't get my facebook to load and I'm convinced that the government has something to do with it.

Edited to add my own thoughts (not part of the original reddit call for action): And if you do not feel like taking a total break and perhaps want just a trial separation or couple's counseling, then perhaps consider Black March Lite 2.0 = spend, but spend money on those content creators and independent retailers who came out against SOPA/PIPA. And tell them why you're buying their products in March. There are many of them.

And for those who favor the more targeted boycott, you can find info here. But no matter which, you can participate and you can tailor your level of participation. We have the tools, the will and the strength to take a stand.

With the continuing campaigns for internet-censoring litigation such as SOPA and PIPA, and the closure of sites like Megaupload under allegations of 'piracy' and 'conspiracy' the time has come to take a stand against music, film, and media companies' lobbyists.
The only way is to hit them where it hurts.
Their profit margins.
March 2012 is the end of the First Quarter in economic reports world wide.
Do not buy a single record. Do not download a single song, legally or illegally. Do not go to see a single film in cinemas, or download a copy. Do not buy a DVD in the stores. Do not buy a videogame. Do not buy a single book or magazine.
Wait the four weeks to buy them in April: see a film later, etc... Holding out for just four weeks, maximum, will leave a gaping hole in media companies profits for the first quarter, an economic hit which will in turn be observed by governments world wide as stocks and shares will blip from a large enough loss of incomes. This action will give a statement of intent:
"We will not tolerate the Media Industries' lobbying for legislation that will censor the internet."

So the FBI and the Department of Justice have NOTHING better to do than to take down the nefarious megaupload? So everything else in the U.S. is completely, 100% perfect?

BULLFUCKINGSHIT!

I honestly cannot believe that this was deemed so important for the federal government. I signed petitions and contacted my congressman/senators about sopa, but that's politicians pandering to the power of lobbyists working on behalf of the entertainment industry. This? I don't even know.

Seriously...the FBI? The DOJ?

How about they go after REAL threats. Like the hackers that create viruses, like the one that nearly destroyed my computer a month ago? Or those that plant credit card skimmers at self check-outs in local grocery stores and steal a shitload of credit card numbers? No! It's much more important to go after a website that allows people to upload/download movies, music and shit.

And before you start whining to me that it's the poor guy in the editing room or the sound mixer or the grip that's getting screwed out of his feeble paycheck? That just speaks louder about how fucked up some industries are and how perhaps there should be salary caps on said professions. Like professional athletics, television and film actors, directors and what passes for a musician nowadays. No person "needs" to make $3.5 million. And since that's considered a "lowball" salary, I think that says enough.

It appears as though the picks are from Shame, which he is supposed to be awesome in and the movie looks really good- I've been thinking about going to see it next week. I apparently missed the memo about the nakedness.

I sometimes feel like fics should have a warning for a sad ending. I'm not talking about character death, but just when things for the pairing don't work out and there's heartbreak without any resolution. Sometimes I need some prep for a fic to emotionally bitchslap me. Also if it's definitely not something to read while PMSing.

It's just that while you're reading a fic (particularly a long one) you get so invested and you're reading the fic in the first place because it's a pairing that you love and even though you love to put them through the proverbial emotional meat grinder, you still want some hope at the end. I'm not talking the happily ever after bullshit, though at times I'm so not opposed to that, but some resolution.

I just need to be prepared if I'm going to be emotionally flayed by a fic is all.

I need to be a lot more careful when working on a manip. I'm pretty sure that I was holding my head at a horrible angle and leaning forward into the monitor. Now my neck hurts like hell. Ow.

Also, trying to crosspost from dreamwidth for the first time. I would prefer to crosspost from LJ to DW, but couldn't see how. Lame.
